Dr. Patrick O'Dowd was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, as one of eight children. After graduating in 1985 from Juniata College in Huntington, Pennsylvania, Dr. O'Dowd received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1989 from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Dr. O'Dowd completed internships at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, the VA Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington, and South End Community Health Center in South Boston, resulting in an increased understanding and awareness of developing eye care treatment options.
Acting as president of the New England College of Optometry branch of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) International, Dr. O'Dowd began a free clinic for those without ready access to eye care and spearheaded the collecting and dispensing of donated prescription eyeglasses.
